Reopening Resources

School Reopening Policies and Procedures: The Key Points

For the convenience of our families, we have outlined some key points* to remember as we reopen school.

*Please note, these points are covered in greater detail in our Health and Safety Plan Summary, as well as in the 2020-2021 Handbook COVID-19 Supplement (required reading for all parent and guardians). These documents can be found below and we encourage you to read them carefully as they will help you be well-informed regarding school safety measures for this school reopening.

Face Coverings

Ratner Montessori School requires all faculty, staff and students to wear a cloth face covering (face mask) when on campus or inside school buildings. Mask breaks will be provided throughout the day.

Exceptions: Toddler students will not be required to wear face coverings. Children's House students (preschool and Kindergarten) can choose a cloth face covering and/or a face shield.

Families are expected to provide face coverings for students. All students should bring at least two face coverings to school each day – one to wear, and one to change into in case the first becomes dirty or damaged.

For more on masks, please see Ratner Guidance on Cloth Face Coverings document below.

At-Home Health Screening

Parents are encouraged to be on the alert for signs of illness in their children and to keep them home when they are sick. Parents are asked to conduct a pre-screening each day at home.

Please do not bring your child to school if you notice any of the following symptoms:

  • Temperature of 100 degrees fahrenheit or higher
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Diarrhea

Note: For the safety of our community, please do not bring your child to school if you have provided a fever reducer within the last 24 hours.

Temperature Screening Upon Arrival

Upon arrival, a staff member will take each child’s temperature using a contactless thermometer. If the child has a temperature of over 100° fahrenheit, the staff member will verify the temperature with another thermometer. A child with a double verified temperature of over 100° fahrenheit will need to go home.

Building Access Limited to Faculty, Staff and Students

During the 2020–2021 School Year, school and gym building access will be limited to faculty, staff and students, as well as essential visitors (tutors, repair/maintenance, emergency personnel, state licensing personnel). Parents will not be permitted to enter the school except in emergency or urgent situations. All parent meetings will be remote.
