Elementary I & II
Ratner’s Montessori Elementary I program for children ages 6-9 in Grades 1, 2, and 3 ignites the child’s innate love of learning through exploration and conceptual study in the academic disciplines of literature, language arts, mathematics, science, geography, and cultural and social studies. Elementary I students also enjoy physical education, art, music, Spanish, and (optional) Jewish Studies. Over the course of this three-year cycle, Montessori-trained teachers and students develop close relationships that allow for respect and appreciation of the individual within their community and environment, as well as deep learning within the academic fields. Ratner’s Elementary I program encourages the child’s creativity and curiosity to build connections both academically and socially.
Ratner’s Montessori Elementary II* program for children ages 9-12 in Grades 4, 5, and 6 encourages the child’s growth as both an individual and responsible, productive member of society. The curriculum expands the child’s awareness of themselves and their place in society and the world through interest- and discovery-based learning and research across academic disciplines, including reading; creative and expository writing; mathematics; science; history and global studies. Elementary II students also enjoy physical education, art, music, technology, Spanish, and (optional) Jewish Studies. The three-year cycle develops bonds between the teachers and students, as well as the child’s potential for learning and leadership. The Montessori approach enhances the child’s executive functioning skills, such as responsibility, ownership, time management, organization, and goal-setting, building a strong foundation for how to be a life-long learner.
*Ratner is transitioning at the Elementary II level during the 2018-2019 school under careful guidance of a Montessori-trained teaching consultant, and will be fully Montessori in the 2019-2020 school year.
