MONTESSORI PRE-PRIMARY PROGRAM: KINDERGARTEN PROGRAMS

On Mondays and Tuesdays from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., Kindergarten age children will incorporate academic Montessori lessons with Kindergarten themes such as peaceful conflict resolution, time, calendar, sensorial extensions and other appropriate topics. Weekly science lessons will be presented during this time. The children will explore science topics as a group and then have the opportunity to examine the work on an individual basis. The children will maintain their own notebooks as a record of their experience. Emphasis will be placed on group activities, providing the children with the experience of using their voice within a community.

During Wednesday afternoons the Kindergarten children will have additional special classes in art, music, physical education and gardening.

Kindergarten Enrichment topics will be explored on Thursday and Friday afternoons from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. The Enrichment Curriculum provides your child with the opportunity to study a wide variety of people and topics. The kindergartners will begin the year learning about Noah Webster and his work in creating the first American dictionary. Each kindergartner will receive a journal, tabbed with the alphabet for recording work throughout the school year. Next they are introduced to Maria Montessori. They learn about her life in Italy and how she developed the first Montessori School. The children color Italian maps and flags for their journals, trace and color pictures of the pink tower and create other related projects.
