Children are at their most receptive age for many kinds of learning between three and six years old. When children are engaged in a prepared environment, they develop their physical and mental powers to the fullest, as well as their desire for further intellectual inspiration.
Montessori materials, possessing a definite purpose, order and self-correcting ability, make up the following areas of the classroom:
Practical Life: While children work at activities such as washing dishes or sweeping the floor, they gain experience in caring for themselves and the environment. At the same time, they are developing coordination, concentration and a sense of pride in their work.
Sensorial Materials: The Pink Tower is just one of the many materials used to guide children to recognize, sort, classify and understand their world.
Language and Math: As children become ready, language and math materials are introduced. The materials are concrete, encouraging the children to move at their own pace and eventually begin an exploration of abstract ideas.
Other areas of the classroom: Lessons are presented in Science, Geography (People and Land), Music, Art and Large Muscle, further broadening and enhancing each child’s world.
An “Early Bird” program is available at 7:30am. “We Care” is available until 6:00 p.m.
