Colin C. Buck
Class of '04

This summer, Colin C. Buck (’04), brother of current Ratner 8th grader Gavin Buck and Ratner Alum Kaitlyn Buck (’01), attended the 2007 Congressional Student Leadership Conference (CSLC), sponsored by LeadAmerica, at Pace University in New York City.  The CSLC is a college-accredited invitational leadership program for academically talented and promising young leaders from across the United States and internationally.  Exceptional high school students with a record of academic achievement and extracurricular or community involvement are invited to participate.

Students select an academic area of study, choosing from among Government and Politics, Engineering and Robotics, Global Business and Entrepreneurship, Intelligence, Diplomacy and National Security, Diplomacy and International Affairs, and Theatre Arts; among many other varied and interesting topics.  Colin, currently a senior at Hawken School, chose the conference on Global Business and Entrepreneurship, and participated in briefings and discussions with national and international leaders and hands-on simulations in Market Analysis and Financial Analysis.  These interactive workshops and activities gave Colin the opportunity to learn and develop vital leadership skills, including effective communication, conflict resolution, team building and time management.

LeadAmerica is one of the nation’s premier youth leadership organizations, whose mission is to transform the world’s next generation of leaders by educating, inspiring and instilling in them ethical and principled leadership values, attitudes and skills.  Its high school conferences are college-accredited and its programs are approved activities of the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
