HISTORY OF THE LILLIAN AND BETTY RATNER SCHOOL
The Lillian and Betty Ratner School an independent, co-educational and non-sectarian and offers programs for students 18 months through eighth grade.

The Lillian and Betty Ratner School is celebrating four decades of providing a nurturing and challenging educational environment which fosters a sense of confidence, responsibility, and independence in its students, allowing them to develop to their fullest potential.

The Preschool was founded in 1963 on the grounds of The Park Synagogue in Cleveland Heights and was named for Lillian and Leonard Ratner, whose philanthropy and love of learning were admired throughout the community.

By 1970, The Ratner School expanded to include children from six to twelve years of age, and four years later, a classroom for children with learning differences was added. In 1982, the Middle School was opened, serving children thirteen and fourteen years of age

In 1994, Mrs. Betty Ratner, chairperson of the Board of Trustees of The Ratner School for more than 25 years, passed the mantle to her niece, Barbara R. Miller.

The School recently earned membership in CCIS, the Cleveland Council of Independent Schools, based on its innovative, professional, educational program. With the help of a professional development team of staff and volunteers, the school is experiencing significantly increased philanthropic support. The School is also accredited by the Independent School Association of the Central States.
