ADDITIONAL SERVICES
The Lillian and Betty Ratner School has assembled a talented team of specialists to support the work of the classroom teacher in providing each child with an exceptional learning experience. From early screening and intervention in the Preschool, to speech and language consultation in the Day School, our students are carefully followed through their years to maximize their school experience.
Learning Specialist
The learning specialist administers the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Screening (DIBELS) to all K-2nd grade students three times per year as a means of assessing reading readiness and growth. The specialist also acts as a coordinator of all special services to children. Small group intervention is available to Preschool and Day School students in need of phonemic awareness and multisensory structured language.

School Psychologist
A school psychologist consults with teachers on a regular basis. Upon teacher or parent request, the psychologist may also observe an individual student within the classroom setting, offering suggestions to help the child be successful, or to provide testing when additional assessment is necessary.

Speech and Language Services
Speech/language and hearing screenings are provided to all Kindergarten students and students new to the School. Speech/language evaluations and therapy are available to students in Kindergarten through eighth grade who are determined to be in need of further intervention.

Standardized Testing
Beginning at the third grade level, standardized achievement tests are given once a year to assess student performance, as well as to provide testing experience.

Conferences
Conferences with parents are scheduled twice a year and, additionally, may occur at any time by request of parent or teacher. The preschool schedules classroom observations prior to the first parent/teacher conference. In the Day School, students receive grade reports three times per year (November, February, and June). All have a narrative component and discuss each student’s academic achievement and social development.

Transportation
Free school bus transportation provided by each school district exists for most students in Kindergarten through eighth grade. For children under Kindergarten age and children from communities not providing school buses, carpools are often available. The school administration will be glad to assist in making transportation arrangements.
