Diversity: Our Foundation & Compass

Since its founding in 1963, The Lillian and Betty Ratner School has been defined by our genuine commitment to diversity. All communities, and especially all learning environments, are stronger and more robust when the rich diversity that students naturally bring to them are valued.

The Ratner School is a mosaic drawing on diversity of many kinds: ethnic diversity, socioeconomic diversity, diversity of learning styles, diversity of lifestyles, diversity of talents. Other schools may mention diversity in their marketing efforts – at The Ratner School our commitment to each individual naturally creates diversity.

DIVERSITY GUIDES THE WAY WE TEACH

We know that each student has a unique “learning fingerprint,” so our classrooms, our teacher-student ratios, and our educational support systems are all designed with this in mind. Teaching and learning at The Ratner School happen in as many different ways as we have students.

DIVERSITY DRIVES OUR CURRICULUM

The world in which we live now demands that schools have a curriculum that prepares students to think and act like knowledgeable and responsible global citizens, armed with the skill set needed to dissect and analyze problems of global complexity. Throughout The Ratner School, from the Montessori Pre-Primary through the Montessori-influenced Primary and Middle Schools, our Global Studies program leverages the School’s long-standing commitment to diversity to develop the skills and knowledge needed to be global citizens.

DIVERSITY DEFINES OUR COMMUNITY

From our school-wide Cultural Celebrations to the incredibly rich and layered diversity that characterizes our community of families, The Ratner School is a place that honors and celebrates the many perspectives that make up our School.
